What is the Assisted Living Waiver (ALWP)? The Assisted Living Waiver is a Medi-Cal program that helps eligible seniors receive care in a residential setting, such as an RCFE, instead of a nursing facility. Facilities that take part in the waiver can serve residents whose care is supported through Medi-Cal.
What is an RH package? Some residents on the waiver need more support than standard care can provide. For qualifying residents, a Residential Habilitation (RH) package lets the facility hire a dedicated one-on-one caregiver and submit an additional claim through Medi-Cal for that extra care.
That can mean:
- More personal, consistent attention for the resident
- A sustainable way for your facility to provide that level of care
- Peace of mind for the resident's family
My firsthand experience I own and operate an RCFE in San Diego that is approved for the ALWP. Right now, I care for residents on RH packages. My facility hires dedicated one-on-one caregivers for those residents and receives additional payments through Medi-Cal for that care.
